Our Values

Our Vision

The Ephesians Prayer is a prayer for the Congregation of Malone.

Ephesians 3: 14-21

“…I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in Heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith - that you being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen”

All about Jesus

At Malone we believe Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He is the only hope for every person, the nations and the whole of creation. We want our lives to imitate the life of Jesus in every way.

The Book we read

We believe the Bible teaches certain things about God and humanity, the world and the church. These are distinctive views and they can found in our teaching, praying and community life. As Christians we then try and apply this teaching to every part of our lives. We believe God sent his Holy Spirit to help us to do this.

Prayer

We believe everyone can begin having a personal relationship with God through speaking to Him directly. We call this special conversation ‘prayer’. We encourage everyone to talk to and listen to God.

Sundays Together

We believe it is important that we make time to come together on Sunday because it is our Sabbath day together. We believe that God teaches us to set this time aside to worship together because it is beneficial not only to our faith but also to our family life, our marriages, our health and our relationships with one another as a community of people trying to follow Jesus.

Our Worship Through Music

We have a rich history of praising God through music and we believe the music in worship should enable people to praise God. We believe there should be a combination of traditional and modern music when we worship together.

Our Leadership

We subscribe to the Westminister Confession of Faith and we practise a presbyterian form of church organisation. Our Minister is the Teaching Elder and there are Ruling Elders who belong to the spiritual leadership team of the church that has been traditionally called the ‘Kirk Session’.

Our Giving

Giving is an integral part of our act of worship as a church family. It is also an act of obedience, as well as a response to God who gives graciously and extravagantly, and it enables us to be more like God our Heavenly Father. We believe we should give generously, joyfully and regularly to our local church family but also the church family worldwide.

Rooted and grounded in love

The setting of Malone offers us a picture to illustrate Paul’s description of being rooted and grounded in God’s love. Our church building is surrounded by mature trees that offer an oasis at a busy city junction. It is our prayer that, like the mature trees at Malone, everyone in the Church Family at Malone are rooted and grounded in God’s love wherever we may be in life, so we can enjoy or at times withstand, the seasons of life.

We recognise that all that we are and all that we do finds its perfection and fullness in God’s love - an extravagant, generous, unconditional, sacrificial and redeeming love. A love that we discover in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. When we are rooted and grounded in God’s love then we are able to demonstrate that love more fully in all we say and do.

Living and growing together

Malone is a congregation of people who are a Church Family and are made up of all ages and from different backgrounds but we have one thing in common - we all want to know God more and become more like Jesus. We know this is not easy but we are trying to live and grow together in God’s love. We recognise we need the Holy Spirit to give us the power to do this - this is the Spirit of peace and unity.

We live in a busy and sometimes complex culture and society so we also recognise we need Jesus everyday. Jesus taught us to love God with all our heart, our soul, our mind and our strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. Even more so Jesus’ command to love our enemies (Luke 6). As we worship and serve God here at the junction of the Lisburn Road, Balmoral Avenue and Stockmans Lane; and in many different places across Belfast, the UK, and indeed the world; and through our professions, family connections and travels, we seek to show others the love of God so they would join us in living and growing together with Jesus.
